Electronic Data Interchange - Inovis

Electronic Data Interchange is the electronic transfer of business documents from one computer to another. EDI is a secure method of sending Invoices, Purchase Orders, Shipping Notices and many other business documents. The leader in EDI software is Inovis (formerly known as Premenos). MCS is an authorized distributor for Inovis and has successfully implemented EDI400 countless times.

EDI starts with an agreement between you and your trading partner. The trading partners (e.g., JC Penney, WalMart, Kmart, Sears) agree on a standard format for sending and receiving documents. This method of transferring information can result in reduced costs to both the trading partner and the business owner.

EDI over the Internet (EDI INT) creates a set of secure protocols for conducting highly structured inter-organization exchanges. There are two current specifications, AS1 using SMTP and AS2 using HTTP to transport the data. The AS2 specification supports EDI or any other data transmittals over the Internet using HTTP. AS2 specifies the means to content-type.
