It used to be that the only option for eliminating this downtime was to replicate objects to a secondary environment with high availability software, then execute a tape save over the replicated environment. But this is no longer the case thanks to iTera technologies that enhance the journaling and save-while-active features of OS/400. No downtime tape saves are now available to any shop at a fraction of the cost of high availability software and without the cost of a second iSeries environment.

Point-of-Failure Disaster Recovery

On top of the tremendous benefit of eliminating downtime during tape saves, Echo² DR can restore data right up to the point of failure in the event your system should fail or be destroyed between tape saves. Echo² DR's exclusive technology works with the journaling functions of OS/400 to perform ongoing replication of journal receivers to another environment, which does not necessarily need to be an iSeries environment. In fact, it can be any TCP/IP connected storage device such as a network server, or even a PC running Linux. This process efficiently protects the transaction information that occurs between tape saves. Even if you save your critical data each night at midnight but the system fails the next day at 11:00 p.m., with Echo² DR you can automatically retrieve and restore all transactions that occurred up to the moment of failure, which can eliminate days of manually reconstructing data.
