LPAR Services

MCS also can assist you with logical partitioning (LPAR). LPAR is relatively simple, but implementing a successful LPAR can be complex. The concept LPAR allows one physical system to be split into two or more logical systems. LPAR’s benefits include server consolidation, a single point of administration and the efficient use of system resources. LPAR on the Power Systems™ is supported by the System i, AIX, Linux operating systems.
 
It’s a good idea to first analyze your current environment documenting each partition’s system requirements, monitoring system activity and then analyzing the results. We can help with this procedure which includes the following guidelines.
 
  • Describe each partition’s critical jobs, job streams and processing functions.
  • Understand the processing windows needed for each partition.
  • Gather performance data. The data should be gathered by partition, by day, by week and by month.
  • Consolidate and analyze data using a tool such as performance monitor to create an overall picture of system resources.
  
LPAR on the Power Systems™ has re-energized server consolidation and IT cost optimization strategies. Today, clients have successfully deployed LPAR to achieve quick consolidation of multiple workload environments, time zones and footprints within a single or fewer Power Systems. These clients have taken advantage of LPAR to benefit from the growing industry trend and the desire to optimize IT investments and resource virtualization through consolidation of hardware, software, networks, data centers and more importantly skills.
 
MCS provides a full range of LPAR services: planning, design, implementation and training. We can also provide you with any needed hardware and software for LPAR implementation.
 

Performance Analysis
 
MCS also provides performance analysis services. Performance analysis is a form of dynamic program analysis to investigate a program’s behavior using information gathered as the program executes. The purpose of the analysis is to determine which sections of a program to optimize, increase it’s speed, decrease its memory requirement or sometimes both. MCS can help you understand the techniques of performance analysis of systems and partitions running the IBM i. We have a team of experts that can teach your staff how the IBM i operates and interfaces with applications to better manage performance on the systems and partitions running IBM i. MCS can analyze system performance issues and recommend changes to resolve system performance problems. We can apply methods and tools available with IBM i to analyze and tune performance.
 
Backup and Recovery
 
Backing up data and then recovering is sometimes neglected in businesses.   If you don’t have a good backup procedure in place your business can come to a complete halt.
